The Hinduja Family, owners of the multi-billion-dollar Hinduja Group, is one of the UK's richest families. Through their philanthropy arm, The Hinduja Foundation, the family whose roots can be traced back to the Sindh province, has been successfully contributing towards urgent social initiatives, with a focus on important niches, one of them being quality education. Under the guidance of the foundation’s Managing Trustee, Prakash Hinduja, the Hinduja family has been actively involved in a series of initiatives that focus on improving education, learning, and developing new skills, and sharing knowledge, thus ensuring that every child has access to high-quality education.
Taking inspiration from the four Hindujas – Prakash, Kamal, Ajay, and Namrata – the foundation is slowly expanding its offering, progressing from primary education to university level. The shift also paves the way for other common educational tools that several institutions lack, such as vocational training and computer classes, so that several future generations can benefit from these new developments.
He is a stalwart figure in the global business and philanthropy. Yes, we are talking about the managing trustee of the Hinduja Foundation and director of Hinduja Group’s Europe Division, Prakash Hinduja. Geneva, Vancouver, Amsterdam, and several other places across the globe are equipped with exceptional educational facilities with equal opportunities for all, something that Mr Hinduja envisions for India. Apart from contributing towards building better educational infrastructures, Prakash has also offered scholarships to deserving students. Through these scholarships, students can pursue further education, irrespective of their financial situation, thus offering educational freedom and equal opportunity to those who need it the most. Some of the disciplines in which successful scholarships are awarded include medicine, engineering, science, and technology.
The literacy rate for girls in India currently stands at around 96%. Kamal Hinduja has been an advocate of girls’ education and believes that for a nation to progress, it is important that all its women are educated. Under her tutelage, the Hinduja Foundation has commenced several initiatives focusing on female literacy and empowering young girls and women to take a step towards education.
Through Kamal’s efforts, the Foundation has set up vocational training centres that focus on helping girls acquire skills to excel in fields like digital marketing, finance, as well as healthcare.
Namrata Hinduja believes that extracurricular activities are as important as education, emphasizing that they allow the child to grow and develop skills that cannot be learnt sitting on a classroom bench. Through her active involvement, the Hinduja Foundation also supports children in other programs revolving around personality development and leadership skills to foster individual growth among children.
Through the foundation’s efforts, the Hinduja Family continues its efforts to make quality education available to all sections of society.
